How to do Napa with Kids

There is a bit of misconception of Napa is not family friendly. This past weekend we spent an amazing time with the kids in the beautiful Napa Valley.  The truth is you will need to give up on the idea of only going to winery, and if you are okay with that, then you will have an amazing relaxing family time.

Food is amazing in Napa, you really can’t go wrong here.  Everything is delicious.  This trip I didn’t have a list of restaurant to check it out, i just went with the flow and few nights we even did room service and even that was delicious!

When I travel with the kids, i try not to over do too much, i keep it simple with few activities and we actually spend a lot of time in the resort.  I’m huge believer of relaxing, We spend a lot of time doing things constantly without a break and we forget the meaning of what vacation is suppose to be. In our household we already do so much at home, with homeschooling, extra curricular activities, piano, etc.  It’s essential for our kids to understand the meaning of doing nothing outside of our home and enjoying mother nature.  Of course there are other different situations but this particular time, we needed a break.  A break away of all things called routine.

Eleni participated in her first BIG International Piano Competition in San Jose and this required a lot of work!  We practiced 4 hours everyday. She woke up practice, ate breakfast, practiced, lunch practice, you get the point.  In between time, Nico would get some work done too.  It was non-stop for all of us, including our littlest guy Nolan.

Napa was perfect destination to enjoy the summer heat, maybe a bit too warm but a dip in the pool after a few glasses of crisp white wine was all I needed.  No routine means we sleep when we want to and wake up when we have to.

Things you can do as a family:

I only went to one winery, and we did Castello di Amorosa.  Kids are always intrigued by the castle.

Old Faithful Geyser, we didn’t get to go, because of the heat, but will definitely check it out next time.

What we enjoyed most was the walk down Napa Valley River after a meal in the Oxbow Market.  Dancing to music in the open grass area and watching the sunset.  Back in the room we ordered a movie and snoozed at midnight.  It was a lovely evening….if only i can rewind time right now and savor that moment just one more time…. but i’ll just remember is not about what you do but spending it together in a very relaxing
