We spend a lot of time driving here in Southern California. Thirty minutes in the car means nothing these days. We have been researching for engaging podcasts for my 6 and 8 years old. Scroll down here to see my recommended list of what we found.
We love listening to podcasts, because most of them are within 5-10 minutes long. Just enough for Nico’s attention span before he breaks into his million questions. I have linked them below, but you can find these in your iTunes for free.
- Aaron’s World – This is an adventure podcast narrated by a cute little boy. It’s about 3-5 minutes long per episode and he talks about the different dinosaur and environments during the pre-historic times. The background music keeps the kids engaged too! I feel this is perfect for the age group of (5-7) Although my 8 years old also learns something each time.
- Wow in The World – Hosts Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz guide curious kids and their grown-ups on a journey into the wonders of the world around them. We’ll go inside our brains, out into space and deep into the coolest new stories in science and technology. Length 20-30 minutes.
- Short and Curly – is a fast-paced fun-filled ethics podcast for kids and their parents, with questions and ideas to really get you thinking. It asks curly questions like about animals, technology, school, pop culture and the future. The hosts, Carl Smith (reporter of ABC News), Molly Daniels (Australian actress and filmmaker), and Dr. Matt Beard (from the Ethics Centre is the program’s fun and curious resident philosopher). The kids love the voice animation and really covers interesting facts.
- Brains On! – is a podcast featuring science and kids produced by American Public Media. There is a different kid host each episode and it asks questions and go wherever the answers takes them. Sometimes that means talking to a food scientist or a snake handler, other times that means putting on a play about sound waves or writing songs about sleep. It’s a science lesson for your ears.
- PhysicsCentral – In Explore the Science you can read about current research in physics and the interesting lives of physicists. There is so much good content information in this website! It’s so exciting to be on the website!! My husband particularly loves this subject and we discuss so many areas and as matter fact I learn along with them.
Isn’t it splendid to thing of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive…” L.M Montgomery, Anne of Green GablesB
These podcast are always available and perfect to fill in those waiting around moments and spark up a quick discussion. We sometimes get carried away with further research but at the end we learn so much from the 5 minutes ago. So much you can do with 5 minutes of your time! We especially love doing this during a long road trips. Keeps our discussions long and our google search active. I just feel so thankful to be living life a time with advanced technologies. Don’t you think so!? Our kids have so many questions and being able to fill the their curiosity with facts and knowing that we are nourishing their learning minds brings so much more confidence to them and myself!
Happy Learning!
